Monday night, President Trump sounded the alarm on Twitter stating next week there will be mass arrest on illegal immigrants as the United States immigration agents will round up parents and children across the major U.S. cities.
The tweet from President Trump said, “Next week ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States. They will be removed as fast as they come in.”
The Justice Department set up a plan this year known as the “rocket docket,” and Homeland Security officials will make the arrest by the thousands, if not by the millions. They will be targeting those family members visas are expired and will begin the deportation process.
Two months ago, Ronald Vitiello, the acting ICE director, and Kirstjen Nielsen, the Homeland Security Secretary hesitated to get the job done, and they were ousted. They expressed their concerns with the effectiveness, preparation, and worry over the outraged public.
Former FBI and Border Patrol officer Mark Morgan replaced Vitiello. As the president watched television, he was impressed with the statements Morgan spoke on immigration enforcement and how far he wanted it to go.
Within two weeks he made a public announcement he was going after families who had deportation orders, and the immigration laws will be enforced. He told reporters in June, “Our next challenge is going to be interior enforcement. We will be going after individuals who have gone through due process and who have received final orders of deportation. That will include families. ICE agents will treat the parents and children they arrest with compassion and humanity.”
United States officials knew about the preparations but did not know it was going to happen so soon.
They stated no one was aware the president was going to make that announcement over Twitter or that he planned to push their enforcement. This would be known as the biggest deportation the United States has ever done, and it will take massive amounts of agents, along with local law enforcement to gather all the information needed to make these arrest.
They will have to narrow everything down to the addresses and locations of each individual.
Officials and agents are concerned because they are understaffed, and the budget may not uphold the challenge. It was reported the number of ICE agents have declined in the U.S. interior the last few months as the agents are busy managing the southern border as the record surge of illegal immigrants keeps coming into the U.S.
Homeland Security is careful and considered the plan sensitive due to the number of children who will be involved. The problem lies with the parents are considered illegal, but the children are considered U.S. citizens because they were born in America. There is no doubt this has become a huge disaster and will take some time to sort everything out.
More concerns come about if the parents are arrested while the children are not with them. They will be separated for sure, and the children will not know until they come home from school, a friend’s home, or wherever they are. The possibility is high as some children will be left behind.
Miller, Morgan, and Matthew Albence, who is an ICE Deputy, all support the plan and feel the publicity will send a message to families who are illegal immigrants and facing deportation will deter any more families from coming over illegally, and maybe they will leave the country on their own accord.
The problem lies with the number of illegal migrants who skip out on court hearings to stay in America for as long as they can and take a free ride on whatever they can get.
The one thing which infuriated ICE agents is when the Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf made the public announcement, it put the lives of agents at risk. At the time, Thomas D. Homan, the ICE Deputy Director, stated, “The Oakland mayor’s decision to publicize her suspicions about ICE operations further increased that risk for my officers and alerted criminal aliens, making clear that this reckless decision was based on her political agenda with the very federal laws that ICE is sworn to uphold.”
Schaaf responded to Trump in a tweet, “If you continue to threaten, target and terrorize families in my community, and if we receive credible information, you already know what our values are in Oakland, and we will unapologetically stand up for those values.”
