Law Enforcement Official Says They Won’t Support “Unconstitutional” Gun Laws

What happens when the very people charged with upholding the law are faced with a decision that they deem in violation of our constitutional rights? Well, if you are this Sheriff in North Carolina, the answer is obvious. It also appears that he isn’t alone and stay tuned, because there may be a Civil War a-comin’.

Our story focuses on one man, Davidson County Sheriff’s Deputy Tripp Kester, who made his intentions very clear. And Kester wasn’t overheard talking to someone and this wasn’t a misconstrued quip printed by a newspaper, this was the Deputy Sheriff speaking to the Davidson Board of Commissioners. This was going on record.

As our story, citing the Sheriff’s disposition reported, Kester’s short speech and explanation was met with applause. Here is a listen to the man of the hour as he addressed the Board:

“The Constitution needs no explanation. It’s been enforced for several hundred years now… It says what it means, it means what it says.”

Then came the line that drew the applause from those in attendance at the pro-gun rights resolution meeting (more on that burning wick and looming war momentarily) as this North Carolina Sheriff’s Deputy said, “I’m not trying to be disrespectful, but regardless of what y’all do, I’m not going to enforce an unconstitutional law… .”

This wasn’t just a hot-headed southern Sheriff with an itchy trigger finger either and his closing line was evidence of that. At times it sounded almost politician-like, in addition to being well thought out and articulated.

Kester followed that applause saying, “let’s let these people know that we’re here to support them, and we’re not going to allocate any personnel, finances, resources, or facilities to infringe on their liberties.” Smart, right?

The results of this meeting on Commissioner Zak Crotts proposed pro-gun rights resolutions passed – unanimously. These measures also echo what has been happening in other states in this region as Kentucky and Virginia have passed similar measures.

These pro-gun movements and resolutions are also what has lit that wick and in places like Virginia, it is burning fast. In fact, more than 100 counties in Virginia have followed suit, but the Democratic-dominated Richmond is on the verge of signing, as our story called it, “… monumental anti-gun legislation.”

And something has to give…

This is setting up to be a Civil War not with guns, but about guns. The pro-gun folks it appears, are finally done allowing more of their liberties and 2nd Amendment rights to be altered, changed, or taken. The anti-gunners have been pushing legislation, bans, and more burden and regulation for a long time, so it was only a matter of time until push came to shove.

While the lines are still being drawn the divide is only getting deeper and the scenarios are only getting crazier. How many in law enforcement hold our Sheriff’s values? What does that mean for enforcing these laws, for law officers, for everyone?

When the dust settles, one thing will be clear, these sides that are in direct opposition to one another will collide. There will be a day when gun laws directly conflict with the 2nd Amendment and some will say they already have.

There’s a war brewing and it isn’t only in North Carolina, Kentucky, or Virginia, it is happening everywhere, Virginia just may be the scene of the first real battle. Will there be bloodshed? Probably not, but the possibility of loss is very real.

This is the cry of 2nd Amendment defenders who recognize that the threat to our gun rights is about more than guns. It is about the loss of their rights, our rights, and if they can take away our gun rights then what can’t they take away?

Fortunately, for gun-rights supporters and those who have vowed to defend the 2nd Amendment, they have some gun-wielding people like Sheriff Kester behind them. And when push comes to shove, that is one guy we want to have on our side!
